Pretty Pastels And Florals From Primark

This weekend we took a day trip down to Southampton, my mum stock up at Fabric Land there for her sewing business and they have great shopping there. We also have family there which is why we go so much, otherwise it'd be a long trip for lycra. It was really hot all weekend but especially Saturday, and while I'm trying to snap out of dressing for winter 24/7 I still find myself wearing black jeans and cardigans almost constantly. As I did that day, black jeans, black strap top and black and pink mini kimono - which was light, but still.

So after we got four huge bags of lycra we dumped the bags at my brother's place and headed to Primark. I spent four years of my life working there, some at this store actually so going in midday on a Saturday does not worry me. I know how to shop in Primark, I know how it lives and how it works...I know where the good clothes hide and how the sizing works. Something, I probably shouldn't be too proud of but I am, it's like a marathon and if you don't take it seriously - you won't survive.

It's nearing the end of the month but I still couldn't resist spending £57 on a few items of clothing but mainly accessories. The first item I found was a blue skirt which fell just below the knee, and I mean 'just'. The thighs don't really come out often so this skirt covers them just enough that I won't wear tights. I love the vintage cute and fullness of this skirt (£10), it also has a pretty and subtle floral pattern which gives it a nice bit of texture without looking like curtains...although I'd still wear a skirt made from old curtains.

I've seen some prom dresses by Scarlett & Jo in Evans which I love the look of, but want something a bit lighter for the day so tried to re-create the vibe of the look. I found some of their basic round neck tops for £3.50 each which sits really nicely under the skirt. It also covers a good amount of my chest without any spillage - always a bonus, but still looks flattering.

I've always stayed away from belt, why? No idea! But I'm definitely a lover of waist belts. I picked up these beauties from £1 to £2.50 each. I'm not going to lie, I bought a couple of these because they're Figaro colours...the others because they'd look pretty with some of my rockabilly dresses. I teamed the outfit with the back and gold bow belt, it fits really well and is really cute. Must find other things to wear the others with!

A few of the other things I bought were two chunky floral and pastel necklaces. They make quite a statement and not normally something I would go for but I think they're really summery and WILL make an effort to wear more jewellery. I love the wire headband I picked up, I have a couple proper ones at home but this was a nice light one to wear, I have a weird shaped head and the bigger ones can often shift around but I'm hoping this one holds a bit better.

One of my favourite purchases was this mint satchel bag, again, most of what I bought was to match my car. I have zero shame and I don't care. I will not be happy until I find a mint coloured dress with the perfect cut...but I may just make one.

I bought a few other little essentials that weren't noteworthy but I find that place so good for all the little thing, there are gems there but you do have to hunt if you're not a size ten and 5"8 to get things to fit as you want when you have a particular idea like I did. Luckily, I found exactly what I was looking for. We also stopped for a quick bite to eat at a new American style diner Buzz in Southampton, do the biggest portion of non-sharing wings I've seen, alco milkshakes and epic burgers. My favourite was the chef's gourmet special - anything with a slab of goat's cheese is a winner in my books.

There were also these amazing wedding cars on Above Bar Street...totally want something
like this in my life.

Hopefully there'll be more posts of me looking like an actual girl...probably still in black.

Summer's Coming!

I'm not usually one to embrace summer, sunshine? Yes. Excessive heat? Naaaaaah. But I am definitely looking forward to some sun, so I did a little shopping to get me in the mood.

I got a little haul from Primark, I used to work there so I know how to dig out the gems and find the good stuff. My favourite buys were these sunglasses, perfect for driving in my Nissan Figaro no? Costing only £3 I couldn't resist, I have a bit of a sunglasses obsession every season. The next is this kimono costing £13, I'm not normally one for the pink floral Hawaiian theme but I'm kinda loving it this year. I actually bought it two sizes small as it's so big it wasn't an issue.

I also found this cute pink and pineapple sleeveless top for only £6, you can't say no really. It kind of falls into the tiki rockabilly theme too so I couldn't put it down.

I wore the pineapple top and sunglasses while going to a car boot in search of vintage finds...where I found this picnic hamper! Costing me only £6 I didn't think it was too bad, it's not lined or filled but I think I'll match it to my back seat cover I did in pale green and white polka dot and hopefully find some cute picnic crockery to fill it with.

I was in Southampton this weekend to visit some family and I love the shopping there, the center is great. My little brother is obsessed with Lush and their bathbombs, whenever I'm down I always get him some as a treat and he usually gets a bag full at Christmas time. I did however pick up some Gorilla solid perfume in the 'Lust' fragrance for myself £5. It basically smells like the shop itself, like fizzing bathbombs dipped in sherbert. Can't recommend it enough for a little dab of gorgeous smell.

Cambridge really needs to get an Urban Outfitters, I only ever look at the home stuff and I do dream about owning one of their Crosley Record Players, but this time I settled for a new drinks container for work, I think it sums it up pretty well. £12 for something that makes me smile every day, totally worth it.

The last of my purchases came from Bobb-In & Sew and Dunelm Mill, I bought some new fabric, the flower fabric came from Bobb-In & Sew which I'm going to make a top/dress with. The blue fabric was in the sale in Dunelm Mill, it's the same fabric as my back seat cover for my car so I might make another and sell it as I've had some interest in them and there's a really cute blue Figaro it would be perfect for.

Watch this space! Who else is looking forward to summer?

Easter Bank Holiday Weekend

I know it wasn't that long ago since I went on a big holiday, but I was SO looking forward to having four days off to just relax. I'd planned to do some shopping, eating, drinking and sleeping.

 Some cheeky Easter pin curls

On Friday I did some work on my mum's website that I'm helping her set up and I also sneaked into Cambridge to do some shopping at Hobbycraft and B&M. I've never been to B&M before and it was pretty good actually, all the home decor bits were so cheap I couldn't resist picking up these signs. We also then popped into Dunelm Mill where I got this cute little jar for my jam which I make myself before I'm a rockstar like that, and I also got another sign...I'm looking to move out soon so I thought this might come in handy at some point.

Saturday I spent time with my brothers, sisters-in-law and my nieces, we had a BBQ because you know, the sun was out so any excuse eh? My oldest niece wanted to go in my car, and I'm such a soft touch it didn't take her long ton convince me to put the roof down. My brother also does the best BBQ food ever, so it would have been rude not to go, ended up playing a lot of stupid games in the garden and then ended up spending the night after drinking a lot of Red Stag and watching trashy TV.

Sunday was of course Easter Sunday and I had one excited niece waiting to do an Easter egg hunt, I do of course have a brand new baby niece, but she was more excited about milk and burping to think about eggs. With a selections of eggs from Tesco and Poundland and also a little hunt kit I set up the garden and hid so many eggs even I forgot where some of them were! I also rocked my Easter hair again, which got shown on Sunday Brunch! Yay!

With another day off I couldn't resist hitting the shops, Primark and Tesco getting raided, I love some of the tops that I got so I will post some of them later, a cheeky kimono came top of the list. I also picked up disposable picnic bits which I thought would look really good with my car...yes I do basically buy half of the stuff I have because I think it'll look good with my car, it's a true story. Now for another short week...and probably more shopping...

Ace Cafe Nissan Figaro Event 2014

If you know me on Facebook, Twitter (nixabix) or Instagram (victoryrollsandmixingbowls) you'll know that I have a Nissan Figaro, and that I'm slightly obsessed with it. To the point where I can't be normal...or that healthy. But it's my pride and joy and I you'll constantly find me cleaning it, waxing it and photographing it.

As soon as I bough it a year and a half ago I joined the Figaro club which is brilliant and the forum is a lifesaver. When I bought it I had some bits done to it, luckily there wasn't much wrong with it mechanically so I spent my money on getting new polos, roof, front seat leather, carpet re-dye, radio upgrade and I've since got a new back chrome bumper, number plate surround, re-furbished back chrome light surrounds, a bit of a respray lots and lots of love. I washed mine inside and out, worrying it wouldn't be show-worthy and that the polos on the tyres wouldn't be white enough but I'm pretty proud of it!

There's A LOT of new stuff I want, chrome wheel arches, chrome window surrounds to replace the rubber, a new bonnet, new back seat vinyl...the list goes on really. I did however make a cute back seat cover to hide all the scratches, which seem to have got a lot of interest and I may even make some to order to sell one day.

But anyway, I've made some Figgy friends along the way through various social media, Leah being one of them and she's only a few villages away, our cars even have a pretend creepy relationship (Elvis and Lady Figgins). So we both decided to go to the event (our first) and we got a lovely girl Emma (Elle on the forum) we knew in on it too so we all convoyed down together, which got us a lot of looks and I was even stopped in traffic to ask where we were all going. So we met up, took some pictures and all perved on each others cars before heading off for the Ace Cafe.

 My baby

We got there pretty much on time and somewhere navigated through London all staying together as well, pretty pleased with that effort! We all parked next to each other, more pictures taken - and so began all the car stalking. Obviously none of us had seen so many Figaro's in the same place at once so we were practically squealing, which did give us some odd looks as we went into the cafe, FULL of scary bikers guys - and there we were - with our pastel coloured little cars - and matching nails. Yep. I loved the Ace Cafe, it was the perfect venue really....they also did epic cheesy chips. Fact.

I had planned to not really spend any money, felt I didn't need to...until I saw The Figaro Shop had a stall there...and worse, a card machine - and even worse, shiny chrome. Before I knew it I had a little crowd around Elvis while he was getting a new chrome corner bumper piece. There were actual gasps as the old corner bumper fell to the ground and pretty much erupted into rust, and pieces. But then beautifully replaced with some super shiny new chrome! Damn them and their card machine. I was pretty happy with their prices as well and I would definitely buy from them again and buying at the show meant I got it fitted too which would have been an extra cost otherwise.

Look at the rust...

 Shiny!

LOVE the red

There were awards for best classic colour, custom colour, cleanest engine, car of the show, furthest traveled etc. And also a raffle with the top prize being a trip to Holland! I was secretly hoping to win the boot rack or a Figaro watch but alas, nothing. Next time I will definitely buy more as all of the prizes were brilliant.

This beauty won 'car of the show'

I nearly bought a black one, mob car - beauts

It was lovely to meet some of the guys from the forum (you'll spy Mr Boatman in some of the pictures!) and swap tips, check out each others cars and even go topless (the car, people!). There was one purple one that had a crazy interior but it was locked all the time and the owners nowhere to be seen so that was a shame.

 This purple was STUNNING

This purple one with the cool number plate had the great interior (below) shame it was never open

I LOVE THIS PINK CAR! Gorgeous as Lady Figgins - and check out out the white light surrounds!

I have to say my favourite car was a pink one that came a bit later (below), the owner had only had it three weeks but it was stunning! And I love how the back lights had been painted white rather than been chromed, I've never seen that before and have a spare set so am seriously tempted to try it.

 LOOK AT THEM!

Us three girls did a little interview for the club about how we only knew each other because of our cars, the club and stalking on the internet so look out for that popping up. Looking forward to another event we can all go to and maybe persuade some other local cars to join in on our convoy!
