This month AlphaBakes is hosted by the lovely Caroline at Caroline Makes and it's their 6 months anniversary for the challenge! Last month it was Ros at The More Than Occasional Baker for the letter V and there were some seriously tempting treats!
I haven't been able to enter for a little while so I'm excited to join in on the month of the letter 'W', which perfectly ties in my last two greatest ventures, wedding cakes! The first is the more traditional tiered sponge and the second a traditional Scandinavian wedding bake.
The first wedding cake is a three tiered chocolate number. Covered in fondant and decorated with gumpaste cherry blossoms. It took a lot of support and buttercream but I was really happy with the outcome! As it was my first venture I couldn't have been happier with how it looked, I want to try for a moister sponge next time.
The second is a kransekake, traditionally served at Norwegian weddings it's made up of 18 rings of chewy almond cake and decorated with glace icing, flag, streamers, crackers and sometimes sweets. They do they say when the happy couple pull of the bride and groom on the top, how many rings come off are how many children they are predicted to have!
The month is early so there may be another entry who knows? They also have a lovely little giveaway for their 6th month anniversary from Dr. Oetker, if that's not a reason to enter then I don't know what is.
